Tips on how to improve retentive memory

Inability of the brain to retain messages for a long time has been a major problem for students. It's very frustrating for a student to take out time, read for a while and forget in a twinkle of an eye.

This has made most students question, doubt and limit their capabilities. It also has increased inferiority complex among people that have experienced it and it's breeding alot of discouragement and disappointment among students.

There are major causes of short term memory ranging from I.Q to reading culture.

Here are tips on how to improve retentive memory

  • Endeavour to feed fine. Nutrition have a great role to play. Also feed on healthy proteinous meals and avoid much fatty meals.
  • Give full attention to what's being read and endeavour to avoid divided attention. There are also specified time and places that have proven to enhance brain performance. The brain functions optimally during early morning and late evening/night. It also functions greatly in a well ventilated environment.
  • Always perform more research and give topics your own outstanding definition and understanding. Also try not to give definitions same way the writer did because you'll end up cramming instead of understanding.
  • Always give yourself break after every successful study. Avoid hectic activities immediately after reading.  Sleeping is the best activitie to be performed after reading because it improves retentive memory.
  • Don't suspend reading for a long time because it'll create dormancy in the brain, the brain itself being highly adaptive will learn to be dormant and hence erase the ones it has already stored. So when next you're going for a vacation, holiday or tourism, carry books along. Always review and revisit already read pages to see if something new will be grabbed

Other ways to improve retentive memory include.

  • Elaborating and reharsing
  • Relate study activities to real life activities
  • Read out loud once in a while
  • Utilize mnemonic devices
  • Read simultaneously
  • Avoid scanning (unless you're looking for strategic point)
  • Have a well structured and organised reading strategy.
  • Always re-read

What JAMB Score Do I Need To Gain Admission?

With many candidates having seen their JAMB results, the question they are now asking is the possibility of gaining admission to their desired school and course of choice with their score; especially those that scored below 200. I have received many questions like, “My score is 150, 160, 170, 180, Can I get admission in so so school?” This post is to address your questions. I will make it easy and straight forward to understand. JAMB score alone does not really guarantee admission. Your admission will also depend on your school of choice and course as well as other admission factors. I have seen candidates that scored well above 200 but ended up not gaining admission and I have equally seen candidates that scored below 180 and yet secured admission. Assuming your JAMB score is 200 and you chose a school like UNILORIN, UNIBEN or UNILAG to study a competitive course (like engineering, medicine, computer science, Law etc) you should consider changing either the school or the course r

Student's fate after lockdown

It's been 5 Months since schools were indefinitely shut down as a result of the outbreak of Corona virus pandemic. Students were forced to move back to their homes while many others living off campus might have stayed back No academic activity has been on board all these while though attempts were made to enhance e-learning but all failed as a result of one problem or another such as poor network coverage and inavailability of required devices. Almost everyone thought that the virus spreading would be controlled in no distant time but all were wrong. Little did they know that the virus will migrate from being an epidemic to a pandemic. This frustrated many students since most weren't prepared for such long vacation from school. Properties were left in school including books to be read. Students were left choiceless as many have swept the idea of schooling away from them, while others started a part-time job, others are now into trading and skill acquisition. The idea of s
