Ten daily habits that damage the brain

The human brain is the most important organ of our body and we all fail to think it also requires exercise or training and nutrition to function well. Thus, forming good habits and avoiding the following bad habits will prevent brain damage and keep it healthy. Here are 10 brain-damaging activities that you must stop doing for better functioning of the brain: 1. Skipping breakfast Our brain needs appropriate nutrients at the appropriate time to function at its best. Due to a fast paced lifestyle, most of us avoid or end up skipping breakfast to save some time. This leads to low sugar supply and poor nutrient supply to the brain. The brain needs pure glucose to function. Poor nutrition can have long term harmful effects on the brain like degeneration of the brain cells. 2. Lack of sleep Sleep deprivation hinders the brain’s ability to perform normally. If you have ever lost your way home or forgotten your keys somewhere and cannot recollect where, then lack of sleep has pr...

LEADERSHIP: Are we being led?

Leadership is the ability to direct and guide others through something. The work of leadership is done by a leader. Leaders already have target and illusional view of their destinations and it's just the duty of the followers to follow the path of the leader even though they might not know the thought of the leader and where they're being led to, it doesn't matter whether the followers believes in the leader or not, the fact is you must follow. Why must they follow? because most followers normally don't have choices. Different followers get different impressions from their leaders depending on how it favours/fail them. While others see their leaders as the worst set of leaders, another group might still see them as the best while another will neither see the good side of their leaders nor the bad side. For this reason, it's impossible to stand and tell a good leader, same with the bad one, all one can do is to say his/her mind. Still, no final  conclusion will...

BACKUP PLANS: What's your plan B

Once in a while, in our lifetime,we’ve planned out routines and it ends up not going as planned. It might not be a mistake from you, it's phenomenal and common among the world population. Some things that may cause things not fall in place as planned might be disasters, unexpected events, forgetfulness and nature itself (rainfall or sunshine). Whenever something don't go as planned, we lost things, it might be time, money, property or even life.now what if your plan don't go well, how/what will you do to put it back in place. That's where plan B comes into play. Without backup plans we end up being frustrated, furious, angry, loss of concentration, mentally and physically depressed, anxious, etc. For this reason, we should always endeavour to have backup plans so as not to be drifted from the lane because of common failures. Backup plans are plans that endeavour to put us back in track and hence, reduce losses that are commonly caused by failures of the previous pl...

EDUCATION:Key to success?

For decades, right from childhood days, we've been told that education is the key to success and a better future. This is supposed to be true. But what happened. According to research, an average of five hundred thousand (500,000) students graduate from Nigerian higher institutions nationwide annually and estimate of one hundred thousand (100,000) Nigerian students graduate from foreign schools annually. Research said that out of all these graduates, 47% remain unemployed while 22% get employed to do minor jobs with very low payment rate. What happened? they've accessed the success key, why don't they just start succeeding? isn't education the key to success anymore? Was the key changed? Well, we were partially lied to. Education isn't really the key to success. The keys to success are: HARDWORK, PERSISTENCE, SELF-MOTIVATION, TAKING CALCULATED RISKS, PERSIVERENCE, NETWORKING. The truth about education is that it teaches people to serve others. that's ...

We’re yet to have any meaningful engagement with Federal Government over strike, says ASUU

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has disclosed that it was yet to have any meaningful engagement with the Federal Government since the union embarked on an indefinite strike. The Federal Government had last year directed that all its employees should be enrolled under the IPPIS scheme by December 31 or their salaries would be withheld. The directive did not go down well with ASUU members and they never failed to make it known to their employers. Few days to the deadline, some ASUU members were said to have secretly enrolled on the platform, while some others, especially their leaders, refused to join. All efforts to persuade them failed; rather they embarked on two weeks warning strike. The national president o...

FUTA dons develop positive pressure ventilator

A team of researchers from the Federal University of Technology Akure, FUTA has developed a positive pressure ventilator, a variant of mechanical ventilator. Presenting the prototype to the university authority, the Dean, School of Engineering and Engineering Technology SEET, Prof. Aremu Akintunde said the present design falls within the non-invasive mechanical ventilator category. He said noninvasive mechanical ventilators come with covers and can be used at health facilities and at home because of its versatility adding that the design is of the Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP) type which delivers constant and steady pressure. The system runs on direct current and can be configured to be powered by solar energy thus it has no direct negative effect on the environment. Another unique advantage of the device is its portability as it can be used in ambulances in the case of emergency and it can also be used in Primary Health Care facilities in the rural areas.
