  The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has disclosed when candidates who participated in the 2020 May/June SCSCE exam that was concluded a few days ago would see their results. This was disclosed by the Head of public affairs of WAEC Nigeria, Mr Demianus Ojijeogu, in an interview with newsmen. According to him, for two years now, WAEC has been able to release candidates’ results 45 days after the conclusion of the exam and that of 2020 May/June SSCE will not be an exception. This means that all things being equal, candidates should expect their 2020 May/June SSCE results between  26th and 31st October 2020. This means that candidates that want to use their results for the 2020 admission exercise still have the opportunity to secure admission this year.   The Federal Government has given state governments and school administrators the privilege to determine when schools can reopen in their various states. What this means is that it is left for the various state governors to announce the date schools will resume in their various states. However, States and school heads are to conduct a risk assessment to ensure that their states and schools are in the right condition to reopen. For instance, they are to ensure classrooms are large enough or used in such a manner that will take care of social distancing. Provision should be made for isolation centres and other necessary equipment. Hostels should not be overcrowded as not to make students vulnerable. All these and other ones like provision of water for handwashing, provision of hand sanitizers, as well as other guidelines are to be put in place by schools before resumption. The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has said that its ongoing strike was as a result of the federal government refusal to fund education as demanded, stressing that it is a deliberate strategy to kill education in Nigeria. ASUU, therefore, said it would unfold its next agenda if the Federal Government refused to negotiate with it on its demands as scheduled. The national chairman of the union Professor Biodun Oyeyemi said this in Ilorin at the weekend at the Town and Gown meeting it had with parents, students union leaders and alumni of universities in the country at the Africa Hall, University of Ilorin. He said the Federal Government with the right attitude can fund education in Nigeria, saying that giving N80bn bailout to banks was a clear indication.  The academic staff union of universities and the Non academic staff union by 7AM today has locked LASU main gate preventing lecturers, the vice chancellor and students from entering the school premises. This is as a result of the non payment of minimum wages by the Lagos state government. All attempt by the Vice-Chancellor to dialogue with NLC, ASUU, NASU members was not successful, as they insist that no one will be allowed into the university premises until their demands are met by the state government. They claimed that an increment in their salaries was promised by the Lagos State government more than a year ago and the promise was yet to be fulfilled.   First year students of the Lagos State University (LASU) will have to wait till January 11, 2021 to resume in-person classes. Until then, their classes will be online according to the resumption schedule released by the university on Friday. Those to resume on Monday are students in terminal classes (400, 500 and 600-Levels) and they would have classes 9am to 3pm on week days only. Masters and PhD students will also be resuming Monday but their classes will hold weekends only. Other classes (200-Level to 500-Level) are to resume November 9, 2020; while sandwich, part-time and diploma students would resume November 13, 2020 for weekend classes only at the institution’s Epe campus.  Alot will happen immediately after resumption of academic activities nationwide. Both staffs and students will be running helter skelter trying the best they can to complete their syllabus for the season. There will be chaos among students as there will be clash of classes. Lectures would be bridged as senior staffs will take advantage of the junior ones. It'll be so obvious on students that the academic session will be the most hectic compared it other sessions ever had. Fraudsters will take advantage of such  opportunities to defraud students all in the name of helping them.
